Prosecution has confirmed having in custody Alexandre Mvuyekure, the former Mayor of Gicumbi District, and other former or current district officials. The crimes they stand accused border on giving undue advantage to some of the bidders in the execution of a district tender. According to Prosecution Spokesman, Faustin Nkusi, the others in custody include the Chairperson of the District Council, Jean Baptiste Bizimana and Fidele Byiringiro, who was until late last year, the executive secretary of the district. The other suspects in custody include Dieudonne Mutabaruka, the director of finance, and Faustin Nsengimana, an entreprenuer. Nkusi said they were arrested on Tuesday and are being held at Byumba Police Station. They are being investigated by the financial crimes unit of prosecution, he said, without giving specifics. In July last year, , Mvuyekure and Phocus Mutunzi, who works in the office in charge of good governance, were accused of embezzling money while working as executive secretaries of Rubaya Sector in the same district, and they have been on bail since. Mvuyekure was the executive of Rubaya sector in 2010 before he was replaced by Mutunzi.
