NPC to create court in every district before 2020

As part of efforts to improve access to outdoor volleyball courts for persons with disabilities, the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) has set a target to establish and advocate for accessible courts in each district before 2020. NPC president Celestin Nzeyimana has said that despite the fact that some districts have these courts already, the biggest challenge is that most of them are rough and put the players at risk of getting injured. “Some of these courts can cause diseases, especially to women while playing and sitting in mud, so we plan to buy and advocate for each district to have an accessible court to avoid such challenges.” Some of the districts like Musanze, Bugesera, Karongi and Rutsiro have agreed to buy artificial playing accessible courts by next year, according to NPC President. Last weekend, NPC received an outdoor volleyball court, worth Rwf10 million, thanks to Christian Blind Mission (CBM), an international Christian development organisation committed to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities. “We thank CBM for this great support. This is a second accessible court after the first one provided by Government of Rwanda,” Nzeyimana noted According to the national paralympic body, this court will be installed in Gicumbi District and will serve both sitting and standing volleyball, Boccia, Goalball and Sitball.
