The US Government has increased its financial contribution to Global Fund by half a billion dollars. The amount will abe used in the ongoing campaign to scale down the tide of HIV/Aids. Rwanda is one of the beneficiaries of the Global Fund and has been ranked among the best users of the money in combating with HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The US’ additional contribution to the Global Fund is US$531 million (approx. Frw289bn) to the fund, which is channeled through the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). According to a press release issued yesterday by PEPFAR, the additional amount brings the cumulative total of the US contribution to the Global Fund to US$2.5 billion since its inception in 2001. Ambassador Mark Dybul, the Coordinator of PEPFAR, said that the US Government contributions to the Global Fund are an important component of PEPFAR’s mission to continue to expand comprehensive prevention programmes. In Rwanda, PEPFAR has funded many HIV/Aids related campaigns and projects. Ends
