Irene Ntale thrills as The Junction opens doors to public

Kigali’s bar and nightclub scene just got better Tuesday night, with the official opening of The Junction Bar and Restaurant at Gisementi in Remera. The cozy lounge located above Ndoli Supermarket is the latest among the additions to Kigali’s fast upgrading night life. Party enthusiasts thronged the opening night, overwhelming management with sheer numbers. The occasion was graced by Ugandan singer and guitarist Irene Ntale whose one hour performance left revelers asking for more. Their prayers were eventually answered when at the end of her performance past midnight, the MC revealed some more good news that Ntare will be performing again on Friday at the Nyarutarama-based K-Club, and on Saturday at the Discovery Bar in Nyamirambo. After a brief curtain-raising act by Rwandan upcoming duo EmpraJahbwai, Ntale eventually stepped on stage slightly after 11:00 pm. She was flanked by two queen dancers and launched straight into Gyobera, the break-through hit that introduced her to the mainstream music market. Guests watch the performance by the Ugandan songstress. She followed this with her repertoire of follow-up hits, including Love letter, a duet with Ugandan musician Bebe Cool, Ono mwana, Nkubukinze, Stay with me, and Batubatisa, in which she laments the pain of dating a serial cheat. Clad in a red tight skirt and black top and heels, the singer dedicated her song Batubatise to the ladies in the house, and got the entire house on its feet. After her performance, live DJ mixes followed till the wee hours of the morning.Several local music starts and event organisers attended the event. According to the promoters of the new joint, the facility will be running a weekly calendar featuring different theme nights from Tuesday to Sunday, graced by some of the best DJ’s in town. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
