The Chancellery for Heroes, National Order and Decoration of Honour (CHENO) will organise a football game to mark this year’s Heroes’ Day celebrations on 1st February 2017. The development was confirmed to Times Sport by CHENO Secretary General Deo Nkusi, who revealed that in a bid to make the day more eventful, they had reached an agreement with the two football powerhouses and all-time archrivals APR and Rayon to play a game as part of the celebrations on that day. “We requested for permission to organise the game between the two clubs and we also discussed with the local football governing body FERWAFA and they all agreed. Olivier Gakwaya, Rayon’s secretary general, also confirmed that they will play against APR FC on Heroes day. CHENO whose mission is to identify, thank, honour and celebrate the memory of Rwandan citizens or foreigners who distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and other acts of bravery also believes that the Hero’s Cup should be an annual event held every year. The day is set to be celebrated under the theme: “Heroism is about making choices that fit us”. The Heroes’ Day will be preceded by a National Heroes Week to start from 20th to 31st January 2017. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
