EASTERN PROVINCE Nyagatare—Police in Nyagatare have arrested another man holding counterfeit money. Jean Claude Magidu was caught with over Frw80,000 in fake currency. This isn’t the first time the crime has been committed. Last week, a man was arrested with nearly Frw300,000 in fake cash. Magidu, born in Ngoma district, was caught trying to buy goods from Nyagatare town in a shop. Upon questioning, Magidu admitted to dealing in the fake currency. He says that he has been trading the counterfeit money throughout all parts of the country. He says that, until his capture, business had grown. “I have been trading especially in areas of Kigali, Rwamagana and now had started working in Nyagatare where my deal was disrupted,” Magidu said. “It is a profitable deal since you take Frw40,000 and you’re given over Frw80,000. Magidu was caught attempting to buy a Frw500 worth toothpaste with a fake Frw1000 note. The shop attendant recognised the counterfeit currency. When the shopkeeper called him back, Magidu instead attempted to flee. District police commander Emmanuel Kalasi confirmed the arrest and the police prepared his dossier to be handed to the courts of law without delay. Ends
