Mutuyimana, who signed from APR, last week, acknowledges that, “We know we’re going to face tough competition against the top teams but we will be up for the challenge.” The Rwanda international believes his team will face stiff challenge from the likes of the defending champion Kibungo University (UNIK), APR as well as fellow newcomers Gisagara and University of Tourism d Business (UTB). The former Petit Seminaire de Butare, Kigali Volleyball Club, UNIK and APR player says that, “I love competing against big teams because it makes you better and stronger.” “When I signed for REG, I knew there would be competition among the teams, but that is a normal thing, we will be fighting to win every game,” explained the ex-Rwanda U21 captain. REG started intensive training last month ahead of the 2016/17 season which starts today and Mutuyimana noted that the new league entrants will be “looking to challenge to finish in the top four and qualify for the playoffs.” University of Kibungo (UNIK) won the league for the second consecutive season this year, while RRA are the defending champions in the women’s league. Both UNIK and RRA will represent Rwanda at the 2017 Africa Club Championships. Meanwhile, Umubano Blue Tigers and Rayon Sports have pulled out of the national league due to financial constraints while Lycee de Nyanza preferred to play in the second division. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
