The nine-time national league champions, APR will not participate in the 7th African Military Football Cup (Camfoot) in Kampala next month. The APR club Secretary General Aime Kayinamura told Times Sport yesterday that APR will snub this year’s continental military tournament because of a busy schedule. According to Kayinamura, APR have a clogged schedule on the local scene and on the continental scene (African Confederation Cup). “We can’t really get time to participate in the African Military football cup.” “Most of our players will be preparing for the Cecafa Challenge Cup as well as The African Youth championship in Kampala and Kigali,” Kayinamura said. When contacted, Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) Spokesman Major. Jill Rutaremara confirmed that the forces won’t be represented at bi-annual event. “RDF will not attend because of her heavy involvement in other sports programmes despite the fact that we were invited,” Rutaremara said. Hosts, Uganda are set to be represented by Simba FC. The tournament will be held at Namboole stadium. Early this year, Uganda hosted the Africa Military games where the Rwandan representatives Military FC performed poorly. Cameroon is the defending champion of this year’s event which is estimated to cost Shs700m (Frw. 210m). Meanwhile, the local football body, Ferwafa is set to receive confirmations from the continental football body, CAF the Rwandan referees who have been chosen to officiate at the competition. But Ugandan referees Denis Batte and Yahaya Kiti are among the 16 officials to officiate at the next month’s competition. Ends
