Over 250 kids set for East Africa Streetfootball world festival

Over 250 children from Rwanda and other regional countries will grace this year’s 4th edition of East Africa Streetfootballworld Festival that begins today and will run until December 10 at Kimisagara Football for Hope Centre in Kigali. The annual event that is organized by Association des Jeunes Sportif de Kigali is aimed at celebrating the power of football to change the lives of Children in East Africa, according to the Organization’s Chief Executive Officer, Victor Emmanuel Sewabana. “The event will have teams from all streetfootballworld network members in the region, organizations from across Rwanda and local communities,” said Sewabana. He further noted that; “Over 250 children, boys and girls, aged 10-15 years, mainly coming from disadvantaged communities in Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Burundi and South Sudan will participate.” According to Sewabana, the fun and education festival program will be aimed at various life changing aspects such as; increase in non-violent conflict resolution skills, promotion of peace values through football, Improvement of intercultural understanding and communication and increased awareness on WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) knowledge. Streetfootballworld is a Germany-based non-profit organisation, which, in Rwanda, works with Association des Jeunes Sportifs de Kigali, to promote their goals. In 2014, CAF and Streetfootballworld signed a Memorandum of Understanding to effectively contribute to positive social change in Africa. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
