Striker Usengimana tipped for stardom

Police FC head coach Innocent Seninga has backed his fast-rising youngster, Dany Usengimana, to become one of the all-time best strikers that the country has ever had following his impressive form last season that he has continued with even this season. The 20-year-old goal maestro won last year’s top scorers accolade and has so far scored six goals in six games played in the 2016/17 Azam Rwanda Premier League, making him the top scorer. Seninga made the remarks after the striker’s hat-trick last weekend gave Police to a 3-1 victory over Musanze FC in the match day 6 encounter that took place at Nyakinama turf on Sunday in Musanze District. “I know his ability to score goals; I know he will become one of the best strikers in the country. We only have to be patient and help him raise his level in every game,” Seninga said in an interview with Times Sport Such players don’t come around very often, this season he has settled in and acquired the exposure needed. He has now found himself on the fringe of the action, playing all the games in Police FC’s last six league games. He is a talent and now a regular starter and first name on team sheet,” Seninga added. Usengimana sealed the victory for the Cops side, which took them to second position on the league ladder with 13 points, three behind leaders Rayon Sports with 16 points and will clash with newly promoted side Kirehe at Kicukiro stadium this Friday. Seninga first signed Usengimana from Sec Academy in 2014/15 league season when he was coaching second division side Isonga FC. He scored seven goals that season, before attracting attention from Police FC that signed him the next season on a two-year deal. In his first season with the Cops, he struggled due to solid competition from other experienced strikers like Jacque Tuyisenge now at Gor Mahia. Following Tuyisenge’s departure in 2015/16, he became a regular starter and was the 2015/16 top scorer together with APR’s Muhadjir Hakizimana each ending the season with 16 goals editorial@newtimes.co.rw
