EAC legislators blame regional conflicts on leaders

WESTERN PROVINCE KARONGI — The new members of the East African Community (EAC), Rwanda and Burundi will effectively play a paramount role in addressing and resolving the regional conflicts, MPs of the East African Community Legislative Assembly (EACLA), have said. The legislators were on Monday speaking at a three-day workshop held to design strategies of preventing and resolving conflicts in the East African region. The workshop held at Moria Hill Hotel in Karongi District, was also attended by other experts on conflict resolution. At the workshop, the Legislators dwelt on the different root causes of conflicts in East African member countries and pointed out a number of ways of how countries can resolve them. They observed that Rwanda and Burundi would shield the regional bloc against external attacks. The MPs appealed to the regional governments to join efforts in solving problems in member states. Citing the post election violence in Kenya and the 1994 Tutsi genocide in Rwanda, the law makers blamed conflicts in the region on the failure of politics by different leaders. Ends
