Amb. Kavaruganda presents credentials in Australia

Amb. Guillaume Kavaruganda, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Australia, with residence in Singapore, on Thursday, presented his letters of credence to the Governor-General of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove. The ceremony was held during a private call on Sir Peter Cosgrove at the Government-House in the Australian Capital, Canberra. The envoy was accompanied by his spouse and the commercial attache, Lucas Murenzi. In a closed-door meeting with the Governor-General following the presentation of credentials, Amb. Kavaruganda extended to his host warm greetings from President Paul Kagame and the two discussed strengthening the already good bilateral relations between Rwanda and Australia through increased political and economic cooperation, among others, according to a statement. Rwanda exports coffee and tea to Australia while it has also attracted Australian companies in mining, agro-inputs and technology to Rwanda. Ambassador Kavaruganda was accompanied by his spouse. A sizeable number of Rwandans have benefited from Australian government scholarships to pursue graduate and post-graduate courses in Australia over the years. Currently, the Rwanda Community in Australia is estimated at around 3000 while a large number of Australian tourists visit Rwanda annually. Amb. Kavaruganda replaced Dr Charles Muligande, who previously represented Rwanda in Australia with residence in Tokyo, Japan. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
