PHOTOS: Local designers showcase ‘decent’ creations

Local fashion designers on Saturday showcased their creations made out of different fabrics in a fashion show meant to promote decency. The Rwanda Modesty Fashion Show, which took place at Petit Stade, in Remera saw designers showcase both men’s and women’s wear in a show largely attended by young people. The event dubbed, “The Beauty of Decency”, attracted fashion enthusiasts, but failed to begin on the scheduled time. The show started at 8p.m. with remarks from the organisers, Abdul-Wahab Ngabitsinze and Nurdin Murenzi, founders of Berwa Platinum Company. The fashion show was organised by Abdul-Wahab Ngabitsinze (2-left) and Nurdin Murenzi (holding the mic). / Courtesy Murenzi said that the event was meant to show people that fashion is not all about being skimpy. “Today’s generation is in love with fashion so much but what we wish to tell them is that as they embrace it, they must put into consideration being decent. “It is the reason we chose the theme of the show because today there is a misconception that being stylish is dressing in skimpy attires,” said Murenzi. Fashion lovers turned up for “The beauty of Decency” fashion show held at the Petit Stade, in Remera. / Courtesy Emmalito Murenzi and Yvonne Ingabire, who were the night’s emcees, ushered the designers on the runway to kick off the evening to the delight of those who attended. Eight local designers showcased their creations including Delphine Fashion House whose kitenge collections with a contemporary modern look made them decent and smart. Also showcased were men’s casual outfits as the sizeable crowd cheered. / Courtesy Berwa House of Fashion, owned by Lucas, presented men’s wear sewn from cotton and Batik, coming off with a corporate and smart look. Lucas said his creations were inspired by his passion to make decent but elegant and trendy outfits. “I love mixing fabrics but still maintain that corporate and elegant look, with a good level of decency,” says Lucas. Over 25 models wore the designs on the runway as they displayed different kinds of styles of dresses, trousers, shorts, shirts and accessories that included necklaces, ear rings and bags. Some of the other beautiful outfits displayed. / Courtesy Julius Chita, a Rwandan comedian, well known for imitating local celebrities, entertained the show goers as he mimicked a number of renowned television news anchors and Radio presenters which left many in stitches and amazed by his talent. Valence Ruzindaza’s Kaliza Fashion House showcased both men and female wear including accessories impressing the crowd with his creativity. Gloria Umutesi also showcased her Kitenge-made designs in ladies’ shorts, long dresses, and T-shirts that are embodied with the word “Rwanda” on them and trousers. Other designers who showcased included Akaliza Fashion House, Queen Fashions, Hakim Designs and Jamra Designs. A variety of decent collection pieces were displayed on the runway. / Courtesy Davidson, an upcoming Rwandan singer, cheered up fashion lovers with a rendition of Adele’s Hello as well as his music including Mbikubwire. The show ended at 10 pm with guests having a chance to buy some of the made in Rwanda products like hand bags, wallets, travel bags, shoes, ear rings, bangles and dangles that were on the display. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
