KIGALI - Thousands of members of women associations from across the country have since Saturday camped at the gates of the Germany Embassy in Kigali. The women are protesting the recent arrest and detention of their fellow woman and Director of State Protocol, Rose Kabuye. Kabuye was on November 9, arrested in Frankfurt, Germany, following the contentious French Judge Jean Louis Bruguiere’s, indictment over her alleged involvement in the shooting down of Rwanda’s former president, Juvenal Habyarimana’s plane in 1994. She was arrested while on an official diplomatic mission. Her arrest has caused a furore on both the local and international scenes. Several demonstrations have been taking place across the country and abroad but this time round, the actions have taken a new turn with thousands of members of women organisations setting base at the German embassy. The protestors spend days and nights at the gates of the embassy and have now been joined by some government officials, including cabinet ministers. The women are demanding for the immediate release of their liberator, saying she is an innocent mother who does not deserve to be mistreated over false allegations. The women have vowed not to leave the embassy gates until their demands are met. Ends
