AS Kigali women football club coach Grace Ninyawumuntu has praised her side after claiming the national women league title for record-extending eighth consecutive season. The City of Kigali-sponsored side were crowned champions on Saturday with a game to spare after thrashing winless Nyagatare WFC by a record 27-0 at the Kigali Regional Stadium in Nyamirambo. In 15 games played this season, bottom-placed Nyagatare have not scored a single and conceded a total of 167 goals, an average of 11 goals per game. “This season was tough because we drew against Les Lionnes and lost to Kamonyi, but we managed bounce back and won the next fixtures, which helped us to retain the title,” said Nyinawumuntu. All the 11 AS Kigali players on the pitch scored on Saturday, with forwards Anne Marie Ibangarye and Liberate Nibagwire netting five goals apiece while Clementine Mukamana scored four. Goalkeeper Judith Ingabire, the girlfriend of APR and Amavubi midfielder Muhadjiri Hakizimana, also scored from the penalty spot. AS Kigali will be handed the league trophy on Saturday, October 22, after their final league match of the season against Rambura. Their closest rivals Kamonyi FC have 33 points with two matches to go. Kamonyi have a game in hand against Nyagatare, which will be played mid-week, before winding up their season against Golden Generation.
