Ubumwe first in action as FIBA-Africa Zone V Club tourney starts

Today Men’s category Group A Savio (TZ) vs National Engineering (S.Sudan) 6pm Patriots (Rwa) vs UCU (UG) 8pm Group B Ulinzi (KEN) 55-93 City Oilers (UG) Espoir (Rwa) vs ABC (TZ) 2pm Women KCCA (UG) vs JKT Stars (TZ) 10am Ubumwe (Rwa) vs KPA (KEN) 1pm Don Bosco (TZ) vs UCU (UG) 4pm Ubumwe women basketball club will be the first Rwandan club in action as the 2016 FIBA-Africa Zone V Club Championship gets underway today and will run until October 7 at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Ubumwe, making their second appearance at the annual competition, open their campaign against pre-tournament title favorites Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), at 1pm Rwandan time. The women category comprise seven clubs that will play against each other on a round robin format and the top two clubs will face off in the final addition with qualifying for this year’s FIBA-Africa Club Championships. The clubs in the women category include; Ubumwe, KPA and USIU (Kenya), JKT & Don Bosco (Tanzania) plus UCU & KCCA (Uganda). In other games in this category today, Uganda’s KCCA will faceoff JKT while Don Bosco will play UCU from at 4pm. Meanwhile, in the men’s category which has two groups, Uganda’s City Oilers beat Kenya’s Ulinzi 93-55 in the opening game played early today. Rwanda’s Espoir, also in this group, will faceoff Tanzania’s ABC at 2pm before Savio of Tanzania play against National Engineering from South Sudan at 6pm. The third Rwandan Patriots BBC, who making their debut, will be the last in action when they taken on UCU from Uganda at 8pm. Patriots and Ubumwe are residing at Green View Hotel while Espoir has been accommodated at Valentino Kariako hotel in Dar es Salaam. The one-week long tournament has attracted a total of 17 clubs; 10 men and seven for women from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan and Rwanda.
