WESTERN PROVINCE RUBAVU — A 29- year old man has been detained at Kanzenze Police station for allegedly killing his friend. Pacifique Ndekezi, a resident of Ngoma cell, Nyabirasi sector is said to have murdered, Jean Claude Mbonabucya, 26, on November 9. The deceased was a resident of Kanama Sector, Rubavu district. “We arrested him after a tip off by his neighbours and he will be charged according to the law,” said Elman Murayire, the area Police Chief Inspector. Talking to The New Times at the police station, Ndekezi admitted the killing, saying he wanted to conceal a past love affair he had with his sister in-law. Ndekezi narrated that he had impregnated his sister in-law and feared that the deceased would reveal the secret as he was the only person aware of it. He recalled their love affair: “I was confused when she told me she was pregnant. I did not want my wife to know. After a few days I was approached by my friend Jean Claude (the deceased) to get him a well behaved girl for marriage. I immediately advised him to marry my sister in-law,” said Ndekezi and explained that he wanted the deceased to be held responsible for the pregnancy in order to save his marriage. However, Ndekezi added, “….Mbonabucya later discovered that he was not responsible for the pregnancy and started threatening to tell my wife. I also thought his anger would force him to kill me. I decided to kill him before he did.” He said he slit the deceased’s neck four times with sharp metal killing him instantly. “I went to his place at night, found him sleeping and killed him instantly,” he said. Mbonabucya’s neighbours, say the deceased became suspicious when he realised that his wife had given birth only after six months of their marriage. He reportedly forced and asked her for an explanation with the new bride confessing the whole story. Ends
