The U-19 national cricket team will travel to South Africa today to compete in the U-19 division 2 cricket world cup qualifier, which is slated for September 10 -18 in Johannesburg South Africa. Rwanda has been an active member in this tournament for the last five years having made a maiden appearance in 2009. The teams in the competition include Rwanda, Botswana, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone Tanzania and Zambia while the best two teams will qualify for the world cup division one which will also be played in South Africa next year. Team skipper John Bosco Tuyizere said that the team is ready to do whatever they can to qualify for the U-19 world cup cricket tournament. Davis Turinawe’s 14- man squad is expected to perform well in this tournament after undergoing good preparations. “These are the same players that have just played so well in the concluded U-19 triangular tournament in Nairobi and have also been outstanding throughout the season in the national league so we expect them to reciprocate that same performance in South Africa,” said Turinawe. The 14 players selected include Ochide Tuyisenge, John Bosco Uwizeye, Manassey Iyamuremye, Charles Karasira, Yvan Shema, Patrick Inyamibwa, Modeste Murangwa, Amitie Iradukunda, Aime Nkurayija, Mubarak Ndambendore, Brian Kayitare, Jean Paul Komezamuheto, Kevin Irakoze and Chancellier Nzabarinda. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
