Three athletes have been added to the team which will represent Rwanda at the World Road Running Championship due on October 14 in Udine, Italy. The trio who include; Gervais Hakizimana, Claudette Mukasakindi and Epiphanie Nyirabarame who will join Angelline Nyiransabimana, Serge Gasore, Slyvain Rukundo, Felix Ntirenganya and Dieudonne Disi to form a solid eight-man team for the World championship. The Rwanda Athletics Federation Secretary General, Appollinaire Munyangoga told Times Sport on Monday that the trio has received a boost of travel fare which will be paid by both the athletics federation and the National Olympic Committee (RNOC). “The two girls will be catered by funds from the National Olympic Committee while the air ticket initially meant for Disi, will cater for Hakizimana after the former agreed to find his won means of reaching Italy by himself,” “Disi has done a greater favour for his fellow athlete and I think he also wants to compete with the presence of fellow countrymen and women after he took to field alone in last year’s edition,” Munyangoga said. Rukundo, Ntirenganya and Nyiransabimana booked their places on the national team after winning the just concluded national road running championship a fortnight ago. The new face on the team is Gasore, a Rwandan citizen who has lived in the US since then year 2000. All the local based athletes will be making their first debut to a World Road Running championship. The team is expected to start residential training late this month. The federation is planning to conduct the residential training in high altitude areas of Ruhengeri or Byumba. Disi, who finished 9th in last year’s edition held in Debrecen Hungary has been named the national team captain. Ends
