RPF members to construct model community settlement in Gasabo

Rwanda Patriotic Front members in Gasabo District have pledged to construct a model community settlement in Gikomero Sector. The pledge was made during the biennial congress that attracted 3,200 members of the party from across the district, held at Petit Stade, Remera on Saturday. During the assembly, there was an exhibition of different art crafts made by RPF members in the district The model village will have 160 housing units complete with facilities such as electricity, water, a health post and a modern market, among others. Stephen Rwamulangwa, RPF chairman in Gasabo District, said the meeting looked back and reflected on what had been achieved as well as set new goals. In economic development, some of the achievements include 89 per cent of electricity coverage in suburbs, tarmac roads constructed in the sectors of Kimihurura, Kacyiru and Remera, creation of master plans for city outskirts, among others. RPF Chairman in Gasabo District Stephen Rwamulangwa addressing the assembly In social welfare, 71 classrooms were constructed, while 95 per cent of the district population has subscribed for community-based medical insurance scheme. Vocational training centres for the youth and markets for street vendors were also constructed. Offices of Kimihurura Sector were built, while construction of Kimironko Sector offices is in final stages. After the presentation of the report of the assessment committee, members lauded their participation in last year’s referendum that saw the Constitution and Article 101, in particular, amended, giving chance to the incumbent President and party chair to run again next year. They committed to keep working together to preserve the achievements as well as participate in the upcoming programmes. They also pledged to keep the civic programme, Itorero, alive; buy security patrol cars for areas lacking one, register members, develop tourist attraction sites such as Muhazi Lake and pursue mobilisation on Igiceri Programme to nurture a savings culture, among others. During the congress, different products were exhibited as part of achievements of RPF members, including agricultural products such as cassava and honey; crafts, products from small scale industries, among others.
