Today Group B DR Congo vs Rwanda 12pm Egypt vs Tunisa 5pm Group A Algeria vs Morocco 3pm Mali vs Guinea 8:30pm Rwanda’s U-18 men’s national handball begin the quest for the title at the 18th edition of Men’s Junior African Nations Championship that starts today and will run until September 10 in Bamako, Mali. The team is fresh from competing in the inaugural Africa Zone 4, 5 and 6 Championships that ended on Monday in Yaoundé, Cameroon where the team claimed a silver medal after losing to the host in the final. Rwanda are drawn in Group B and begin their campaign today against neighbours DR Congo, at 12pm local time, while defending champions and Africa’s top ranked side, Egypt and third-ranked Tunisia will also lock horns in the second game of in the group, at 5pm. DR Congo is ranked number eight while Rwanda is 20th on the continental level. Rwanda, the sole representative from the East African region, is competing in the annual tournament for the first time. Meanwhile, in Group A, three-time winners Algeria will face Morocco at 3pm before hosts Mali take on Guinea, at 8:30pm. Since the first edition in 1980, Egypt has won a record 16 medals (11 gold, three silver and two bronze) followed by Tunisia with 15 (three gold, seven silver and five bronze) while Algeria are third with 10 (two gold, four silver and four bronze). editorial@newtimes.co.rw
