RWANDA international Emery Bayisenge has joined Moroccan Premier League side KAC Kenitra on a three-year contract, Times Sport has learnt. The 22-year-old former Isonga and APR FC defender signed the contract after two weeks of trials ahead of the Moroccan league, which will kick off on August 28. Bayisenge was a key figure of the Rwandan side that reached the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) early this year while last month, he helped APR to a record-extending 16th league title. “I have signed for three years, I am happy here and already feeling at home,” Bayisenge confirmed on Tuesday. Bayisenge has had multiple opportunities for unsuccessful professional trials in Europe. In July 2015, he reportedly signed a one-year contract with Austria’s second division league side Linz FC, but the deal fell through after he failed to secure a work permit, and was forced to come back and rejoin his club, APR, in December. He also had trials at French side Toulouse FC in 2012 and Zulte Walgem (Belgium) in 2013 but both occasions failed to provide a breakthrough for the talented youngster. In 2011, he captained Rwanda to qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico after reaching the semi-finals of the Africa U-17 Youth Championships held in Kigali. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
