A 29th minute goal from Cameroonian forward Felix Kone was enough to help AS Kigali a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Etincelles FC at Umuganda Stadium on Wednesday, December 20, during the first leg of the Peace Cup preliminary encounter. AS Kigali paraded a full-house lineup with the exception of skipper Latif Bishira who was not in the match day squad through injury. Etincelles also had all their players in the fray including talismanic Congolese midfielder Justin Makuta Kakule. The visitors dominated possession in the first half until they broke the deadlock through Kone who was set up by Aime Ntirushwa to open the scores in the 29th minute. Elsewhere, Bugesera FC put up a superb performance as they travelled to Huye Stadium to shock Amagaju FC 2-1 while Sunrise FC settled for a 1-1 draw with Ivoire Olympic at Mumena Stadium in Kigali. Vision FC thrashed Akagera FC 6-0 in a one-sided game whereas Tsinda Batsinde also held Gasogi United to a goalless draw. Kamonyi FC defeated United Stars 2-1in an entertaining encounter while Juvenal Mvukiyehe’s rebranded Addax FC upset Etoile de l’Est in a 2-1 win at muddy Rugende football ground. The second leg for the preliminary round will take place on December 27.
