Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) have started intensive training ahead of the upcoming 20th edition of the Kampala Amateur Volleyball (KAVC) Founders’ Memorial International tournament. The national women volleyball league champions, who are also the tournament title holders, started training last week in readiness for the regional tournament which is slated for August 6-7 at Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala, Uganda. Under the tutelage of Jean de Dieu Masumbuko, the tax-collectors’s side is working hard to secure a third consecutive title in the tournament that attracts the top clubs in the region. Former Kigali Volleyball Club and national team player, Masumbuko said, “I think we have a very good chance to successfully defend our title because we started preparations early and players are responding very well.” “We have been consistent in the league games; we haven’t lost in two seasons. We are in good spirit and hopefully we will be able to retain our title in Kampala,” Masumbuko added. Teams from Uganda, Rwanda, DR Congo, Kenya, South Sudan, Burundi and Tanzania are expected to take part in the two-day tourney. Rwanda’s University of Kibungo are the defending champions in the men’s category. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
