Why Olleh Rwanda Networks rebranded to KT Rwanda Networks

Olleh Rwanda Networks rebranded to Korea Telecom (KT) Rwanda Networks, a move that aims at making the expansion ambitions of the global network more seamless, according to Han-Sung Yoon, the Chief Executive Officer of KT Rwanda Networks. KT Rwanda Netwoks’ Yoon says the rebranding will make the telecommunication company’s scaling up ambitions to the rest of the African countries more seamless yet in unison. “We have just changed the name, from Olleh Rwanda Networks back to globally recognised name, Korea Telecom (KT) Rwanda networks. Nothing else has been changed,” said Yoon. “All our logos changed on June, 27. We intend to extend our operations to other parts of the region, and we thought it’s better to expand as single network, with a similar name.” KT Rwanda Networks ( previously Olleh Rwanda Networks) was established, in 2013 through a Public Private Partnership (PPP), to deliver universal broadband access based on world-class 4G LTE technology on top of Rwanda’s national fiber optic infrastructure and manage the fixed-mobile converged infrastructure as the wholesale provider of high-speed mobile broadband, covering 95 per cent of the population within 4 years. The government has a 49 per cent stake in the firm, while Korea Telecom has 51 per cent shares. From the onset, the company’s vision was to accelerate data market growth by deploying world-class last mile technologies (FOC, LTE) and to expand business to neighbouring countries making Rwanda the regional hub. During a recent Korean film festival, KT Rwanda Networks also unveiled a K-Movie portal on the website www.orn.rw which allows 4G Internet subscribers to stream Korean movies. The portal has access to over 10 new Korean movies in different genres including action, drama, comedy and animation. About Korea Telecom Rwanda Networks In June 2013, the Government of Rwanda and KT got into a Public Private Partnership to install and activate a wide-ranging high-speed broadband network and also lead the extension of the nation’s online services capability, which are essential to achieve Rwanda`s goals in the ICT sector. KT Rwanda Networks is the only 4G LTE infrastructure company in Rwanda, that provides universal mobile broadband network in Rwanda using 4G LTE technology.
