AU Summit ended incident free - Police

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has commended the public and other stakeholders for ensuring an incident free week during which Rwanda hosted over 3,500 delegates here for the just-concluded African Union Summit. In a statement released Wednesday, police appreciated the role by all partners to ensure maximum security in the country and of the event which was also attended by dozens of African heads of state and government. “The security coverage for the AU Summit required concerted efforts of all partners, stakeholders and security agencies as well as compliance of the general public with the rules, laws and regulations supported by effective information sharing to ensure a smooth and peaceful event,” reads a statement signed by RNP Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of Police Celestin Twahirwa. He particularly thanked road users, especially motorists whom he said diligently complied with the changes and road diversions or restrictions, gave positive feedback and constantly interacted with police which resulted into effective road usage. “This continues to be the norm among our communities and it gives us confidence that even similar future international events of the caliber will be successfully policed,” he said. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
