Rwandans in Switzerland gathered in Geneva on Saturday, December 17th, for an end-of-year party focused on celebrating unity, resilience, and other achievements as well as observing the Umuganura traditional harvest feast. ALSO READ: Rwanda’s liberation is a dream come true - Amb Rwakazina The event featured various activities including a discussion delivered by seasoned Rwandan academic Eric Ndushabandi, on the importance of unity and resilience, cultural strengths and government initiatives in building the resilience of the youths, particularly in the diaspora. It also included a talk about Umuganura, underscoring its role in promoting unity, community spirit, and sharing among Rwandans, before Yves Cyaka, the Diaspora community representative, reviewed the community's achievements in 2023 and unveiled an action plan for the upcoming year. Speaking to those who attended, Marie Chantal Rwakazina, Rwanda’s Envoy to Switzerland and to the UN, talked about the essence of Rwandan culture, praising unity and resilience as fundamental pillars. She expressed appreciation for the active participation of Rwandan youth, recognizing their role in preserving cultural heritage. Some young individuals received certificates of recognition from the Rwandan Embassy to Switzerland and the Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva. Notable among the recipients was Angèle-Marie Habiyakare, a 23-year-old Rwandan who recently joined the Parliament of the Canton of Geneva. In her message to Rwandan youth in Switzerland, Habiyakare emphasized self-belief and determination as keys to achieving one's dreams.
