Rwandan Jules Mutesa Dusabe’s campaign in the ongoing Mbarara Golf Open ended prematurely after failing to make the cut in the lucrative tournament on Thursday at the Mbarara Sports Club golf course in Uganda. Dusabe, who was looking for a good start on his professional debut, scored 86 gross on Day One and added 79 on Day Two, thus missing a cut. He was among the 20 pros to miss the cut—only 12 made it to the last two days. The four-day tournament ends today. After Day 2, Ugandan trio of Deo Akope, Fred Wanzala and Opio Onito were tied at the top of the leader board with a gross score of 149, followed by their compatriot Vincent Byamukama with 151. Ugandan Adolf Muhumuza is the defending champion. “The condition of the course was extremely poor; the greens were very dry which affected my game significantly. However, being my first professional competition, I will take the positives and also learn from the mistakes I made,” Dusabe said on Friday. The 30-year-old was the only Rwandan competing in the professionals’ category with the other Rwandan at the tournament, Stephen Katwiremu, participating in the amateurs’ category. Dusabe is the fifth Rwandan golfer to go professional, after Emmanuel Ruterana, Jean Baptiste Hakizimana, Ernest Ndayisenga and Olivier Munyaneza. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
