The return of Ziggy 55, formerly of 'The Brothers'

In the early 2000’s, The Brothers were arguably one of the popular music groups in Rwanda. Until 2010, they produced songs such as Bya Bihe, Ni Wowe Wenyine and Nyemerera which made the trio a household name. However, the group separated to pursue different life careers. Only Danny Vumbi continued to produce music on a solo basis. Later in 2014, Victor Fidele Gatsinzi, the other member of the group, produced a few songs under his new stage name Koudou, but he again disappeared off the scene. However, save for one or two collaborations, the third member of the group, Fikiri Nshimiyimana, known as Ziggy 55, who was seen as the frontman of the group, did not release any music of his own. Almost six years down the road, Ziggy 55 has ended his music hiatus. This past weekend, Ziggy 55 released the video of his first single on what he said is an exciting solo journey. Ziggy55 during the shooting of ‘Cheri Nanga’. (Courtesy) Cheri Nanga is a Rumba song off his new album titled “Lhymne de la fete” which will be released at a later date. It is heavily influenced by Congolese Lingala Music, a style which he says he has always loved. The singer says he has engaged a number of producers for both audio and video, to come up with the best quality of music. “This is just a beginning. I am working on a number of songs and Allah willing, I will release my new album soon,” says the singer, who apart from being in formal employment, has also ventured into TV. He currently works with TV1 as a presenter. The singer says that he will not be releasing substandard music, urging his fans to get ready for the best music.
