Editor, RE: “Intensify crackdown on cars in poor state” (The New Times, June 13). It’s really sad and tragic to lose people and property in such a manner. Such vehicles shouldn’t be on the road. A vehicle, even a well serviced one, has its lifespan after which it becomes unpredictable on its mechanical behaviour. Such aged vehicles are not permitted to be on the road in developed countries even if they look impeccable and passed the mechanical control. Unfortunately, they are sold to developing nations. It’s up to us to see if we need cheap vehicles of any age. Geoffrey Tabara
