Defending champions, Social Wealth Alliance Association (SWAA) Archery club are confident they can defend this year’s Genocide memorial tournament scheduled for today at Utexrwa ground in Gacuriro. Speaking to Saturday Sport, the SWAA club president, Emmanuel Sengoga said archers are ready to put up a strong show to defend the title, having embarked on intensive preparations two months ago. He said: “This year’s memorial tournament is very important because the goal is to defend the title we won last year. We have the buoyancy since the same archers who won last year are the ones still in the club.” Organized by the Rwanda Archery Federation and Shooting Federation (RASSF) and sponsored by the Ministry of Sports and Culture, the one-day tourney will attract five clubs including; New Vision, Pointers Gasabo, South Hills United Club, Indomitable team and SWAA. Last year, SWAA Archery Club won the tournament after defeating New Vision by 408 points, and in the individual category, Stephen Mugume from SWAA, was the best archer. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
