Rwanda Police, Gorillas win Genocide memorial tourney

This year’s edition attracted a total of 15 teams from Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda—with 10 teams in the men’s category while five competed in the women’s fray. Rwanda’s Police Handball Club claimed the title after defeating Uganda’s Evergreen in the final 32-20 to dethrone their bitter rivals APR, who took third place with a 28-21 win over Ecole Secondaire Kigoma. In the ladies’ category, Rwanda’s Gorilla overcame Uganda Police 26-22 to claim the title. Former champions Appega Gahengeri finished third after defeating Technical Secondary School Hanika in the third play-off 19-14. After guiding his side to a second Genocide Memorial tournament title after the 2014 triumph, Police head coach Antoine Ntabanganyimana expressed his delight. Asiimwe) He said, “It was a tough tournament, each team was determined to win, but we deserved to win this title because we had prepared well and we also played well throughout, it’s a great feeling for me and the players as well as the entire Rwanda National Police.” This is the second title the law enforcers’ side has won this season after claiming the Heroes’ Day tourney earlier this year. The winners in both categories were rewarded a trophy and gold medals.
