The National Taekwondo team will debut in the 14th edition of the Taekwondo African Senior Championship that begins today through Saturday in the north-eastern Egyptian city of Port Said. The Rwandan contingent, which is comprised of six men and three women, will hope for a good performance to improve their rankings. Rwanda is the top ranked nation in the region, sixth on the continent and 40th in world rankings. “We arrived safely, players are in good mood and are determined, though still fatigued due to the long journey but tomorrow (today) they will have refreshed and we hope to perform well,” Placide Bagabo, the Secretary General of the Taekwondo federation said in a phone interview with Times Sport. The players representing the country in the men’s category include captain Regis Iyumva (U-58kg), Martin Nduwayezu (U-64kg), Vincent Munyakazi (U-63kg), Emmanuel Twagiramungu (U-68kg), Savier Nizeyimana (U-74kg) and Cedrick Mwemezi (U-80kg). In the women’s fray, the country will be represented by Delphine Uwababyeyi (U-46kg), Aline Ndacyayisenga (U-63kg) and Zura Mushambokazi (U-49kg). editorial@newtimes.co.rw
