Seven-time league champions Rayon Sports have appointed former SC Kiyovu defender Marcel Lomami as their new assistant coach. According to club secretary general and spokesperson Olivier Gakwaya, the new assistant coach was appointed last week with the blessing of interim head coach Djuma Masudi. “Marcel Lomami will be the team’s assistant coach while Masudi will lead the team up to the end of the season. We have agreed everything with Lomami although he has not signed the contract yet,” Gakwaya told Saturday Sport yesterday. He noted, “I think Lomami fits in well because the head coach wanted him and we believe he will be a good asset for Rayon Sports as we continue to challenge for the league title.” “We are not rushing to sign a new head coach, Masudi is doing a great job, so we have to give him a chance and time to prove himself,” Gakwaya explained. Since Masudi took over from Belgian Ivan Jacky Minnaert, who joined Kenyan Premier League side AFC Leopards in March, has not lost a single game. Under Masudi, the Blues have won four games against Musanze, Amagaju, Marine and Mukura, and drawn two against Espoir and AS Kigali. Lomami is from the family of well known former Amavubi strikers, elder brothers Jean Lomami (retired) and Andre Lomami, who currently plays for SC Kiyovu and leads the league top scorers chart with 11 goals in 19 matches. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
