Price of fresh beans rises marginally in Nyagatare

The prices of Irish potatoes and bananas increased marginally in most markets in Eastern Province over the past week. A kilogramme of Irish potatoes costs between Rwf250 and Rwf290 in Nyagatare market, while a basin of tomatoes is at Rwf3,500. The price of fresh beans went up to Rwf430 a kilo, from Rwf400. A cluster of sweet bananas rose by Rwf200 to Rwf700, from Rwf500 a week ago, and a basin of onions goes for Rwf4,000 in Kabarore market, unchanged from the previous week. The prices of many other food items were also stable, with a kilo of fresh peas at Rwf1,100 in Kayonza market. Maize flour costs Rwf450 per kilogramme, that of cassava flour ranges from Rwf350 to Rwf400, while a kilo of rice is at Rwf800 in most shops in Kayonza town. Beef costs between Rwf1,500 and Rwf1,800 per kilo, while a kilo of goat’s meat goes for Rwf2,000, and fresh fish is at between Rwf2,200 and Rwf2,500 per kilogramme. The price of cabbages ranges from Rwf300 to Rwf500, depending on size, and avocadoes cost Rwf100 each and sweet potatoes cost Rwf190 per kilo. Mangoes cost Rwf1,400 per kilo, and that of passion fruits go for Rwf1,300 per kilogramme. A loaf of bread (weighing 1kg) ranges from Rwf800 to Rwf1,800, depending on the size and type or whether one buys from a supermarket or neighbourhood shops. a five-litre jerrycan of vegetable cooking oil ranges from Rwf5,900 to Rwf 6,200, milk costs between Rwf150 and Rwf300 per litre in different trading centres in Nyagatare district, and a bar of soap is at between Rwf400 and Rwf500. business@newtimes.co.rw
