This week, leaders of associations for the disabled at district and national level, underwent a three-day capacity building seminar on leadership, good governance and entrepreneurship. “The aim of this seminar is to educate all the leaders of associations for the handicapped in the country to know their role in the country’s development,” Gaudence Mushimiyimana, the coordinator of Rwanda National Decade Steering Committee (RNDSC), explained, adding, “We are also teaching them how to make reports of the day-to-day progress of their associations’ projects and small businesses.” RNDSC was formed in 2007 to protect the rights of disabled persons and to advocate for their full privileges at the national level. “Laws protecting their (disabled) privileges were amended in Parliament but they had some loopholes and were not being fulfilled. We are going to revise them so that they are clear to everyone and be fulfilled,” Mushimiyimana explained. Uwizeyimana John Bosco, one of the trainees said that the training was timely. “After the training, we shall be able to manage our associations well,” he said The seminar brought together people with all forms of disability.
