Kenyan supermarket, (Nakumatt) has offered to sponsor the first inter school volleyball Junior championships which will be held in Ruhango District in the men and women category from May 21-22. APR’s 19-year-old Patrick Ndayishimiye will be part of Paul Bitok’s plans. (Peter Kamasa) Nakumatt will give the trophies for the winners, and best players in both male and female categories. At least 25 teams are expected to participate in the event. The event is organised by National Team head coach Paul Bitok and Rwanda Volleyball federation (FRVB) as part of talent search efforts ahead of the Junior and Youth Africa Championships, later this year. The upcoming African National Youth Championships U19 in boy’s category will be held in Niger, July/August, and U18 girls will be held in Madagascar July/August, men U21 will be held in Chad, women U20 will be staged in Botswana while women U23 will be held in Kenya and South Africa will host U23 in men’s category. Three years ago the beach volleyball teams U23 men and women played in the world cup held in Poland, the U19 (boys) team took part in Mexico, while the U21 also played in the world championships in Turkey in what has been an outstanding calendar year for Rwandan volleyball. At that time in Africa, Rwanda finished in third position in Youth and Junior categories while in Beach Volleyball they won medals but since then Rwanda has not qualified for the world cup. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
