Editor, RE: “Gunmen attack Rwanda from DR Congo, one killed” (The New Times, March 25). What exactly is Monusco doing in the Democratic Republic of the Congo? And what is the use of the Joint Verification Mechanism—expanded or not—since we rarely get their reports after incidents like this, and their work does not seem to deter repetitive attempts at infiltration into Rwanda by Congolese soldiers or their FDLR allies? Congratulations to Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) for its usual commitment, vigilance, professionalism and quiet effectiveness in securing our country against all would-be aggressors. We sleep soundly in our homes at night and go about our business of developing ourselves and our country with light hearts every day knowing that you are an impenetrable shield around our frontiers.
