Respect league fixtures, rugby body warns clubs

Rwanda Rugby Federation (RRF) has urged clubs to respect the league fixtures. Most fixtures are being postponed or changed, according to the federation general secretary, Tharcisse Kamanda. The irregularities have affected the completion of the second half of the league which started on March 5 and is supposed to end by April 6. The latest case was last weekend’s match between Lion de Fer and Remera Buffaloes which has been cancelled for the fourth time this season. RRF general secretary, Tharcisse Kamanda blamed the disruption of the league schedule on the poor management in clubs. “The clubs need to solve this issue (poor management) by themselves; we are not allowing any more postponements unless they have a solid reason.” The game has been postponed – twice at the request of Lion de Fer (Jan 23 and Feb 23) and by Remera Buffaloes on Mar 12. This means the two clubs still have to meet twice in the league (home and away). The two clubs have played only two games while their counterparts in the Kigali League, Thousand Hills and Kigali Sharks have played four. Thousand Hills top the four-team table with 12 points, Buffaloes are second with 9, Lion de Fer are third in the league with 4 points and Kigali Shark are bottom with 3. RRF made precedence by awarding Rusizi-based Resilience a walkover over Muhanga, who failed to give a “solid reason” for not showing up for the home game on March 5. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
