Multilines International Rwanda has offered medical insurance packages (Mutuelle de Santé) to 350 residents of Bumbogo sector, Gasabo district, as part of their corporate social responsibility. This was during community work (Umuganda) where the company staff worked along with the community to clean and dig terraces around the hilly neighbourhood. The neighbourhood is said to be one of the most affected during rainy seasons. Berete Bucyana, a resident at Bumbogo said that the heavy rains were affecting the area and hence giving them a hand was essential and timely. Bucyana welcomed the contribution of Mutuelle de Santé to the community of Bumbogo, saying that some people who were not able to pay for health insurance will now have easy access to treatment. Alice Mutungirehe, another resident, also went ahead and applauded the initiative calling it a ‘nice gesture’ for the community. Yvonne Banamwana, who represented Gasabo district, said that, “Gasabo is at 75 per cent access for Mutuelle de Santé which is not that bad; the 350 people are also going to add up to the numbers.” According to Julie Mutoni, the Managing Director of Multilines International Rwanda, there is nothing more fulfilling than realising how much of an impact giving back to the community can make. “This is a good practice and we encourage other companies to give back to the community that they operate in, however small or big. This will help in improving the lives of people and will make our environment a better place,” she said. “This will improve family lives, will make the beneficiaries have lasting life impressions because of the time they have spent with them during the community work, just a small act can make a huge difference in someone’s life. The future is dependent on the individual person and the people they surround themselves with. Let us be close to our people and help in any way we can,” she said.
