Police off to Congo ahead of Vita Club Mokanda clash

Saturday V. Club Mokanda vs Police F.C (Stade de Pointe-Noire, 3:30) Police Football Club travelled to Congo Brazzaville yesterday ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup first round tie against Vita Club Mokanda scheduled for Sunday. Head coach Andre Casa Mbungo will be hoping to win the game to go into the return leg tie in Kigali on March 18 with an upper hand. Mbungo will be without Patrick Umwungeri and Rachid Kalisa due to injuries while midfielders Hegman Ngomarakiza and Anderson Neza are back on the squad after spending a month out of action, also due to injuries. The match will be officiated by Jean-Jacques Ndala Ngambo, Leon Kikumbi and Freddy Mputu Lopele from Ivory Coast. “This is an away match; the best way is to avoid conceding a goal and score, then there we will be safe,” Mbungo said. The Peace Cup winner booked their place in the first qualification round of the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup, following their 4-3 aggregate win over South Sudan side Atlabara in the preliminary round. This is the first time Police have managed to reach the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup after their debut in 2013. In 2013, LLB Academie of Burundi eliminated Police at the first hurdle 2-1 on aggregate, but head coach Andre Cassa Mbungo is determined to proceed to the next round. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
