Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) has entered into a partnership with their Belgian counterparts, the Royal Belgian League Vélocypédique (RLVB). The FERWACY president Aimable Bayingana said Rwanda will be sending riders to Belgium for training camps and vice versa. “Belgium is the best country to learn the cycling business. The knowledge of our Belgian colleagues must allow our riders to progress enormously,” Bayigana said in statement. According to Bayingana, the RLVB will host Rwandan riders and provide logistical support and training facilities as well as offer training for local race commissioners. Conversely, young Belgian talented riders will benefit from the training conditions of Africa Rising Cycling Center, a high altitude training centre based in Musanze district, of the Northern Province. On his part, the president of the Royal Belgian League Vélocypédique, Tom Van Damme said that the agreement is the best way to support Rwandan cycling. “Rwanda is undoubtedly one of the strongest African countries in cycling,” said Van Damme, adding “Whether men or women, it features sturdy athletes, courageous and ambitious.” A wide cycling spectrum is covered by the agreement, including the introduction of Track Cycling in Rwanda, technical and educational courses and seminars. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
