Rwanda and Mauritius will meet in a Group H double header of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Belle vue on March 26 with the return leg expected three days later in Kigali. After confirmation of the dates by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Amavubi head coach Johnny McKinstry posted on his twitter handle, “@RwandaAmavubi come together for 2 important games v#Mauritius as we push forward toward #CAN2017.” Amavubi team manager, Bonnie Mugabe said, “Amavubi training camp will start on March 19, while the coach will name the squad a week earlier.” Rwanda which reached the quarter-finals of CHAN 2016 will play the first away encounter before the return leg three days later in Kigali. After two rounds of qualifiers, Rwanda is second in Group H with three points; three behind leaders Ghana, Mauritius is third with 3 points while Mozambique is bottom without a point. Rwanda will be looking to make up for the disappointment of being disqualified from the 2015 AFCON qualifiers over fielding a player (Daddy Birori),who had dual identity. The decision followed a petition by the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT) after the second round first leg match played on July 20, 2014 in Pointe-Noire, which Congo won 2-0. Amavubi won the tie on penalty shootouts in Kigali following a 2-2 aggregate draw. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
