Egyptian giants Al Ahly announced on Wednesday the appointment of Martin Jol as their new head coach taking over from interim boss Abdel-Aziz Abdel-Shafy. The 60-year old former Fulham boss is expected to take over the club with immediate effect after agreeing to a deal with the club after meeting president Mahmoud Taher in London this week. This announcement was confirmed by the club’s official twitter handle, much to the excitement of the anxious fans who were waiting for the ‘big’ announcement after archrivals Zamalek unveiled former Scotland manager Alex McLeish on Wednesday. Jol has been out of work since December 2013 when he was sacked by Fulham following a poor run of form with six consecutive league losses in the English Premier League. His experience in Europe where he managed Tottenham Hotspur, Ajax Amsterdam in Netherlands and German’s Hamburg is expected to come in handy in the Egyptian Premier League. Al Ahly are currently top of the table standings and Jol’s first assignment is to guide the Red Army against Misr El-Maqassa on March 5. Agencies
