Police target quartet after clinching Heroes Day handball title

Sunday final results Men APR 19-21 Police Women Hanika TSS 20-5 GS Mwendo Police handball coach Antoine Ntabanganyimana has set a target to win four titles this year after retaining this year’s Heroes’ day handball tournament that climaxed on Sunday at Ecole Secondaire Kigoma in Ruhango district. Police clinched their fifth Heroes’ day title after edging past archrivals APR 21-19 in a tightly contested final. The new league season is set to start on March 5. “It is a great moment for us to start the new season on a high as we seek to repeat a successful campaign like one we had last year,” Ntabanganyimana told Times Sport. The reigning league champions recorded the most successful campaign last year winning five titles including; Heroes Day, Labor Day, National League, Carre d’As beach and East and Central Africa Handball federation (ECAHF), only missing out on Genocide memorial and Liberation day tournaments as well as the African Champions League. Ntabanganyimana added that, “My target this year is to at least win four trophies, and I’m positive we shall make it.” Recently, the local handball federation decided to discontinue the Liberation Day, Labour Day and Rwanda Cup that used to be held in May, July and December respectively, claiming they coincide with other activities. Meanwhile in women fray, Hanika TSS thrashed Groupe Scholaire Mwendo 20-5 to claim the title from Appega that did not participate. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
