This year’s tenth edition of the Africa International Sports Convention (CISA) will take place from April 1-4 at Hilton Hotel in Algiers, Algeria. The CISA is the only conference of this kind in Africa, and it offers an opportunity for sports leaders and organisations to network and exchange ideas on sport development in Africa. The main topics this year are: Organization of the greatest sporting events in Africa, Anti-doping, and the effect of sport in Africa’s economies. Among the guests and participates will be many organizations like the International Olympic Committee, media partners, FIFA, ANOCA, FIBA, IRB, UNESCO, CONFEJES, OIF, ECOWAS and African Union. The CISA was initiated and launched in 2007 in Dakar, Senegal. The main purpose of CISA is to find an answer to the lack of a platform for dialogue and cooperation on issues concerning sports in Africa. The CISA also features a gala with a yearly induction to the African Sports Hall of Fame, the other attraction include an Athletic Seminar and Seminar of African Sports Journalists. Last year, Rwanda held a successful CISA in Kigali at Lemingo hotel; it was a perfect setting for Robert Bayigamba, the president of the Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) to present a compressible long-term strategy for the country’s sports development. RNOSC strategy was applauded by some of the distinguished delegates, including former president of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), Lamine Diack, who then announced his retirement in Kigali. He said, “I am personally very happy with Rwanda program, “the 80-year old said. “This plan should be followed by other NOCs. The strategy is great for a country like Rwanda, but is should be put into action.” editorial@newtimes.co.rw
