Prices of Irish potatoes, tomatoes increase marginally in city markets

Prices of a few foodstuffs have increased in city markets, with the price of Irish potatoes going up by Rwf20 to Rwf250 per kilo in Kimironko and Nyarugenge markets, from Rwf230 a kilo last week. The wholesale price for tomatoes went up by Rwf500 to Rwf6,500 per basin (measuring unit) in most markets in Kigali city and suburbs, from Rwf6,000. However, most foodstuff prices were unchanged over the reporting period. The price of a kilo of sweet potatoes ranges from Rwf200 to Rwf230, and cabbages are at between Rwf300 and Rwf450 each (depending on size) in Kimironko market. Beef is at Rwf2,300 a kilo in Kimironko market, fresh fish is at Rwf3,000 a kilogramme in Nyarugenge and costs Rwf2,500 in Batsinda market, while pumpkins range from Rwf400 to Rwf500 each and avocadoes cost Rwf100-Rwf200 each. Peas are going for Rwf1,300 a kilo, carrots cost Rwf600 a kilo, and fresh beans are at Rwf400 in Nyabugogo market and go for Rwf500 in Gakinjiro. Maize flour costs Rwf450 per kilogramme, while that of cassava flour is at between Rwf350 and Rwf400. The price of mangoes is also unchanged at Rwf1,300 per kilo, oranges cost between Rwf1,000 and Rwf1,200 per kilo in most city markets, passion fruits are at Rwf1,350 per kilo and apples cost about Rwf300 each. Pawpaw costs Rwf600 each and watermelon (small) cost Rwf2,000, while the big ones are at Rwf3,000 each.
