TVET: Over 88 per cent candidates pass

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) results for 2015 released this afternoon indicate a slight improvement in overall performance. The results released at the Ministry of Education in Kigali by state minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Olivier Rwamukwaya, show that 20,262 candidates, representing 88.38 per cent, passed. A total of 22,930 candidates sat for the exams last year representing a 6.8 percent increment up from 21,368 candidates in 2014. Some trades received 100 per cent pass rate. Among the disciplines that received 100 per cent pass rate include, Ceramic and sculpture, Graphic Arts, Carpentry and general Mechanics. While commending the role of teachers and parents in education, the minister attributed this year’s performance to strong collaboration between schools and stakeholders. “Everyone plays a big role, from the parents to the teachers and it is this engagement that is improving the performance,” he said. Of the 23,153 candidates who registered for exams, 22,695 were school candidates while 458 were private candidates. Overall, 163 schools (53 government, 110 private) presented candidates in 2015 up from 151 (47 government, 104 private) in 2014.
