Food prices stable in Eastern Province

Commodity and foodstuffs prices are largely stable in most markets in the Eastern Province. The price of Irish potatoes has gone down in Nyagatare District, with a kilo going for Rwf220 in Nyagatare and Kabarore markets, down from Rwf230 the previous week. Sweet potatoes cost Rwf190 per kilogramme, cassava tubers are at Rwf180 per kilo, onions cost Rwf800 a kilo and beef is at Rwf1,800 per kilo in Kayonza Market. A kilogramme of maize flour goes for Rwf500, rice costs between Rwf800 a kilogramme, and that of salt is at Rwf400. A kilo of fresh peas increased to Rwf1,200in Nyagatare Market, from Rwf1,00, while fresh beans cost Rwf450 a kilo, up from Rwf400. A basinful of tomatoes costs Rwf4,500 unchanged from last week, bag of charcoal ranges from Rwf6,500 to Rwf7,000 in Kiramuruzi market. Passion fruits go for Rwf1,200 a kilo in Kayonza market, mangoes are at Rwf800 per kilogramme, and a kilo of cassava flour is at Rwf350, sorghum flour cost Rwf800, millet flour cost Rwf1, 000 in Rwamagana market. Banana fingers cost Rwf200 a kilo, while yams are at Rwf270 per kilogramme in Rwamagana market. Pumpkins range from Rwf400 to Rwf600 each, ground nuts cost Rwf1,000, paw paws are at between Rwf400 and Rwf500, depending on size, while cabbage ranges from Rwf400–Rwf300 each in Ntunga Market.
