80 more lawyers join the Bar Association

A total of 83 new lawyers were yesterday sworn-in at the Supreme Court in Kigali. Presiding over the swearing in ceremony, Zainabu Kayitesi, the deputy chief justice urged the lawyers to uphold their professional ethics. “If you abide by the Law and ethics, you will have taken a big stride in your career. You have to carry out your duties with integrity, impartiality, and honesty after taking oath before the court,’’ said Kayitesi. “Everyone is a stake holder in justice and the Supreme Court is ready to collaborate with you,’’ Kayitesi said. She urged the lawyers to keep updated with the new trends in the justice sector, especially the new system of the integrated online management case system. Kayitesi also cautioned the lawyers against derailing cases. Julian Kavaruganda, head of Rwanda Bar Association, welcomed the new lawyers, and advised them to uphold professionalism. Respect of the rule of law, Constitution, advocacy in integrity and independence are some of the values that officials urged the group to always remember while practicing their profession. Doreen Karehe, one of the 21 female lawyers said she had the motivation to practice professionally. The new group brings the number to 1,212 members of the Bar Association. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
